The RISE Book Project
We help families create children’s books that support healing and honor loved ones lost to gun violence.
Books Benefit
Every Book Supports a Family
The RISE Book Project supports King County families in creating children’s and family grief books that help young readers understand and cope with losing a parent to gun violence. Guided by the RISE team, families work together to write and publish meaningful stories that honor loved ones and provide comfort to others experiencing similar trauma. Throughout 2023, RISE partnered with families to develop 10 children’s books, each written by a family and published in December. Families receive copies of their books and may sell or donate additional copies, keeping all profits—offering both emotional healing and a helpful financial resource. This project is a way to preserve memories, uplift children, and strengthen community healing after unimaginable loss.
